Do you know who Demetri Martin is? He’s got his own show on Comedy Central. I’ve never seen the show…but received this video from a friend yesterday. Needless to say, it made an impression. Enough so that I felt it worthy to post on YWA. Really. Laugh out loud goodness.

Really. I should have said “Kick-Ass Alert!” only because this has become the most anticipated film of the year…due to some awesome online trailers. There’s something awful about watching a little girl cuss like a sailor, and being a father of one, I think it makes me even more sensitive to it. But I have an awful sense of humor…and so it goes…I think I’ll really love this movie. I hope you enjoy the kick-ass trailers below…but be warned…this isn’t a kid movie. You might want to wear some headphones and shield your computer screen when watching them.

The Buzz Around Toy Story Alert!

I can’t believe it has been 15 years since the first Toy Story came out in theaters. Where does the time go? Now I have two young children and I have easily seen Toy Story 1 and 2 a good thousand times.

So why am I so excited about Toy Story 3? Is it because I’ll finally see our friendly toys in new adventures for the first time in forever? Or is it that I have been so brainwashed by my own children and their love for Woody and Buzz that I really believe that toys come to life when I leave the room? It’s possible…right?

Update: Avatar Amazing Amazing!

I don’t say it very often. That movie was amazing! Over the last five years, I’ve probably said all those words in the same sentence, maybe three times. And two of those times have been in the last year. Like everyone else, I was a little skeptical going into it. I figured the hype would quickly deflate the actual movie for me. But it didn’t and now I have seen the movie twice in 3D. And I’m sure I’ll go see it again before it’s all said and done. I will probably even shell out for the ultra awesome BluRay 40 disc set when it comes out.

And unless you have been living in a cave for the last week…Avatar Reached $1.1 Billion Worldwide. That makes it the fastest grossing film in the history of forever. Fox have released official international numbers for Avatar. The current total is $735,343,853 in international receipts for a worldwide total of $1,102,880,538. That’s just $30 million behind Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, which it will pass in the next two days or so to become the second highest grossing movie in history (see chart).

All that said…GO SEE IT! It has something for everyone. It has space and special effects (for the scifi geeks), a good message about mother Earth (for the enviro-friendly), and romance (for the women who are unwilling to compromise with their dates and go see the weird-large-blue-people-movie). Boone Oakley is Awesome Alert!

I don’t regularly promote agencies and their work, unless they pay us money. But this company makes me smile and I literally broke out laughing while watching this video. It stood out and that’s unusual in this age of sameness.

Wild Things Are Almost Here Alert!

I’ll eat you up I love you so… If there’s any kid movie that I’m excited to see this year…it’s Where the Wild Things Are. Not only is it one of my favorite books from MY childhood, it’s also a book that my kids love. Bringing this classic children’s story to the big screen – with live action – makes me tear up a little. And the trailer has a good message. “Inside every one of us…” is a great way to start off the holiday season.

Rules of Zombie Killing Alert!

When I went to see D9 on opening night I saw a trailer for Zombieland, featuring Woody Harrelson. I’m a sucker for a good zombie flick. It’s my one guilty pleasure when it comes to horror films. There’s something so intriguing about the idea of being captive in a world devoid of the living…but replaced by the living dead…Muhahahaha (that’s the best I could do for a sinister laugh).

Plus, I’m kinda siked about Woody making a comeback in this movie. He’s funny and is perfect for this part. Maybe they’ll make a trilogy of Woody killing zombies.

Avatar Movie Alert!

Have you seen the new movie trailer for Avatar? It’s a James Cameron flick, due out in December, and it looks fabulous! That’s right…I used fabulous to describe a movie. And I’m not even that familiar with the animated series, but I am a sucker for beautiful cinematography. Take a look.

A lot of people are talking (and by talking, we mean facebooking, or blogging, etc.) about this movie right now. And while you can’t find it on YouTube (WHAT?!!) – it does find itself in the Google rankings with The Last Airbender (M. Night). Hilarious Hal Douglas Alert!

You don’t know who Hal Douglas is? How about Don LaFontaine? No? Then check out this great spoof trailer he did for The Comedian, a movie about Jerry Seinfeld. Very funny stuff. I especially like the sound check guy’s commentary during the whole thing. “What does that even mean?”

The Last Dragon Alert!

Have you seen this movie? It’s one of those HBO flicks we grew up on in the late eighties. When I was a kid, I watched it and thought it was a rad action kung fu movie. I had no clue that it would make me laugh as an adult. Pretty much how every kid thinks, I guess. But recently, I’ve been finding these old movies that were staples of my childhood. Movies that stood out in my memory above all the mindless garbage. Movies like Berry Gordon’s The Last Dragon. A tale of a man who lives a simple life and is on a quest to become a masta’. Check out this sweet clip of a confrontation between the main villain Sho’nuff and the hero, Bruce Leroy.
